Kilchoman Single Cask Release Bourbon 2015

Experience a unique Islay expression that defies convention. This single cask release from Kilchoman offers an extraordinary marriage of intense peat smoke and classic bourbon sweetness, bottled at a robust 120.2 proof for unparalleled depth and complexity. Tasting Notes Nose: Initial powerful wave of maritime peat smoke, typical of Islay, but distinctly intertwined with sweet vanilla, caramel, and a hint of dusty oak. Underlying notes of green apple, lemon zest, and a faint brininess emerge, suggesting a fresh, yet complex character. The high proof is present but well-integrated, hinting at robust flavors to come. Palate: A surprisingly velvety, though intense, entry that quickly expands. The peat smoke is assertive, yet beautifully balanced by rich, creamy toffee, brown sugar, and butterscotch from the bourbon barrel. There are distinct flashes of toasted grains, black pepper, and a touch of nutmeg, adding a spicy complexity. Orchard fruits (baked apple, pear) and a touch of citrus oil provide a refreshing counterpoint to the smoky sweetness. The high proof delivers a warm, authoritative mouthfeel without harshness. Finish: Long, lingering, and exceptionally satisfying. The peat smoke gradually recedes, leaving a warm embrace of sweet oak, salted caramel, and a gentle spicy kick of white pepper and clove. A pleasant dryness develops, encouraging another sip, while hints of sea spray and dark chocolate occasionally surface, showcasing its Islay provenance.
