Silver Surfer Table

The Decay of Time Collection: A Tribute to Earth’s Timeless Beauty The Decay of Time sculpture series by John Brevard redefines functional art, fusing ancient materials with sustainable design. Each piece is a testament to nature’s raw elegance, meticulously handcrafted and polished to ensure no two are ever alike. For this groundbreaking collection, Brevard sourced coral washed ashore from beaches impacted by climate change and ocean acidification, transforming fragile remnants of the natural world into eternal works of art. The coral is cast in molten recycled zinc, which burns away the organic material, leaving behind a hauntingly beautiful imprint—a moment in time, preserved forever. The rugged texture of the cast zinc is seamlessly juxtaposed with polished petrified wood, hand-selected and finished to a glossy perfection. The result is a mesmerizing union of organic history and modern craftsmanship, frozen in time within the poured molten metal. At the heart of the collection is the Silver Surfer Desk, a one-of-a-kind design that embodies both empowerment and elegance. Shaped like a surfboard, its extendable legs can rotate 90 degrees, effortlessly transforming it from a desk into a coffee table—blending versatility with bold artistic expression. Materials That Tell a Story Zinc: Infinitely recyclable and inherently sustainable, zinc is an eco-conscious material that plays a vital role in the environment. Known for its exceptional durability and resistance to corrosion, zinc ensures each piece remains as timeless as the materials it celebrates. A thin layer of resin is applied to seal and protect the surface, enhancing its tactile comfort and longevity. Petrified Wood: Formed over hundreds of millions of years, petrified wood is a material of extraordinary depth and complexity. Sourced sustainably from Indonesian rainforests, each piece is extracted with the utmost care, without heavy machinery or ecological harm. Its dense composition, harder than steel, requires diamond tools and painstaking polishing to reveal its unique grain, color, and pattern—ensuring every creation is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The Decay of Time Collection is more than functional art—it’s a profound dialogue between nature and human ingenuity, where history, sustainability, and design converge.
