Silver Dollar Hydrangea

Silver Dollar is a panicle hydrangea that delivers a bold, reliable show without demanding much in return. In midsummer it produces an abundance of large, cone-shaped flower heads packed with crisp white florets that are notably bigger and more substantial than those of many other panicle hydrangeas — living up to the silver dollar name with a generous, full-bodied floral display that carries real presence in the landscape. As the season progresses the blooms age to soft pink and eventually a warm parchment tone, providing months of evolving color from a single flowering. Vigorous, cold-hardy, and unfussy about soils, Silver Dollar is one of the more straightforward hydrangeas to grow well. It blooms on new wood each season, removing any concern about winter pruning timing, and handles full sun with a resilience that most hydrangeas can't match. A dependable, handsome shrub that earns its space in the garden year after year.   Highlights: Exceptionally large white flower heads with notable substance and presence Blooms age from white to soft pink to warm parchment — months of evolving color Blooms reliably on new wood — no risk of losing flowers to pruning or late frost Excellent cut flower fresh or dried Tolerates full sun better than most hydrangea types Cold hardy and adaptable to a wide range of soils Deer resistant   Growing Info: Hardiness: USDA Zones 3–8 Mature Size: 6–8 ft. tall, 6–8 ft. wide Sun: Full sun to part shade Soil: Moist, well-drained; adaptable to a range of soil types Water: Moderate; water regularly during establishment and hot spells Tip: Prune back by one third in early spring to encourage strong new growth and the most robust flower display
