Silver Antique Paste Monkey Dangly Brooch | Indulgems

Playful Whimsy: 1920s Paste & Ruby Eyed Monkey Brooch A jewel that laughs, plays, and sparkles with life. This rare 1920s brooch is a delightful continuation of the late Victorian and Edwardian love affair with whimsical animal jewels. Monkeys, long associated with wit, mischief, and circus wonder, became favored subjects for designers who dared to infuse humor and character into fine adornment. Here, two monkeys come alive in silver, their bodies glittering with paste stones and their eyes flashing in ruby red. The upper monkey (22 × 38 mm) perches on a bar set with stones, while the lower monkey (18 × 30 mm) dangles on a slender chain, one arm raised in acrobatic motion. The entire brooch measures 2.8 inches in height, allowing the design to sway gently with the wearer, a touch of theatricality frozen in precious miniature. Pieces like this were conversation starters a century ago, worn to soirées and gatherings where a dash of humor was as treasured as diamonds. Today, it remains a symbol of joy, wit, and the artistry of a bygone age.
