Shinkan Bowl

Intricate, abstract patterns emerge in Yumiko Katase’s elegant silver glazes. Adorning the masterly crafted porcelain pieces, the silver glaze invites you to find beauty in its organic patterns. The black porcelain has a velvety matte texture, and strikingly contrasts the subtle shine of the silver, establishing a stunning surface for plating meals.  This larger size bowl is fit for serving or for entrees.  Each of Yumiko Katase’s porcelain pieces are a work of art and no two are alike. Because of their handmade nature, variations in the glazing and patterns can be expected. The silver glaze may oxidize over time and develop an iridescent sheen, which brings an unique aspect of change to these pieces.   About: Yumiko Katase Shinkan Hachi Bowl Intricate, abstract patterns emerge in Yumiko Katase’s elegant silver glazes. She utilizes the “mochaware” technique, developed in 19th century Britain hat produces the intricate patterns and textures that adorn her carefully crafted vessels. She reimagines the mochaware technique by applying it to porcelain rather than the traditional earthenware, and by letting the glaze create organic abstract patterns.   Azumino, Japan Dimensions: 7.5” W x 1.3” H, 7.5” diameter Materials: porcelain and silver Care + Use: Handwash immediately after use with a gentle detergent and sponge.
