Shin Kuroda Carrot

If you worry that the summer heat has closed the window for planting carrots, let 'Shin Kuroda' change your mind. "Shin" means "new" in Japanese, and this open-pollinated variety represents a fantastic improvement on the classic Chantenay type, specifically bred for exceptional heat tolerance. This makes it the perfect candidate for late spring and summer sowings when other varieties might struggle. Its vigorous nature extends to the soil, too; the five-inch, stump-rooted shape features broad shoulders that allow it to push easily through heavy or clay-rich ground where slender carrots often fail. While its adaptability is impressive, the flavor is what will keep this carrot in your garden rotation. 'Shin Kuroda' is celebrated for its remarkably juicy, refreshing crunch and high sugar content. The bright orange roots have a tiny core and tender flesh, making them unsurpassed for raw snacking or slicing into salads. With strong, tall tops for easy harvesting and excellent storage qualities, this is a dependable, sweet treat that thrives in a wide range of conditions.
