Shimano PD-M540 Pedals

What Is the Shimano PD-M540 Open-Cage SPD Pedal Best For?The Shimano PD-M540 is an open-cage dual-sided SPD clipless pedal built for trail mountain biking, gravel riding, and any application where clipping in and out frequently, and walking in cycling shoes, are regular parts of the ride. The open-cage design significantly widens the target area for cleat engagement, making it faster and easier to clip in on steep re-mounts, after a crash, or on technical trail sections where precise pedal positioning isn't always possible. The recessed SPD cleat pocket allows compatible cycling shoes to walk naturally without cleat drag, and dual-sided engagement means no time wasted flipping the pedal to find the right face. Adjustable release tension accommodates different rider preferences from easy-exit to more secure. Compatible with all Shimano SPD cleats including SM-SH51 single-release and SM-SH56 multi-release. SM-SH56 multi-release cleats are included and recommended for trail and gravel use. Sold as a pair. Works with any SPD-compatible cycling shoe.
