Sherry Onyx Egg

Sherry onyx is a banded ornamental stone traditionally associated with grounding and steadiness. This hand-polished egg, roughly 3 x 4.5 inches, is cut in warm amber, honey, and caramel-brown bands — the kind of stone often sold in the trade as "onyx marble," a calcite-based material rather than true chalcedony onyx. Quick facts Stone Sherry onyx ("onyx marble") Composition Typically calcite/aragonite (banded carbonate stone, not chalcedony onyx) Hardness (Mohs) Soft, approximately 3 Color Amber, honey, and caramel-brown banding Chakra Root Traditionally used for Grounding, steadiness, new beginnings Care / Water-safe Not fully water-safe — dry-cleanse only; avoid prolonged water contact and any acids Meaning & historyIn tradition, onyx is regarded as a grounding stone of strength and steadiness, often kept close during times of change for a sense of calm focus. The egg shape itself is a near-universal symbol of new beginnings and renewal, and the smooth, curved form here makes a striking piece for onyx lovers and a natural fit alongside root chakra stones chosen for grounding work. Pair it with our Rose Quartz Egg, another polished stone egg carved for love and heart-chakra work. How to use itRest the egg in a bowl or stand on a shelf, desk, or altar where the banding catches the light, or hold it briefly during a quiet moment as a grounding focus point. Because of its size and heft, it also makes a strong centerpiece next to other pieces from our crystals collection. Care & cleansingThis egg is typically a calcite-based "onyx marble" rather than harder chalcedony onyx, and calcite is sensitive to both water and acids. Keep water contact brief and avoid soaking, vinegar, or other acidic cleaners; if it needs freshening, wipe with a dry or barely damp soft cloth and dry-cleanse (smoke, sound, or a nearby selenite piece) rather than rinsing. Frequently asked questionsWhat is the Sherry Onyx Egg used for? It's a decorative and symbolic display piece — a polished banded stone egg meant for a shelf, desk, or collection. It is not a health product or medical device and isn't intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. Is this true onyx? It's what the trade calls "sherry onyx" or "onyx marble" — a banded ornamental stone that is typically calcite or aragonite rather than true chalcedony onyx. We describe it this way so you know exactly what you're getting. Can I cleanse it with water? We don't recommend it. Because this stone is calcite-based and soft (about Mohs 3), prolonged water exposure or acidic cleaners can dull or damage the surface. Dry-cleanse instead, or wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. How big is the egg? It measures approximately 3 x 4.5 inches, a substantial handheld or display size. What does the egg shape symbolize? The egg is a widely recognized symbol of new beginnings and renewal, while onyx itself is traditionally linked to grounding and steady strength. Will my egg look exactly like the photo? Close, but not identical — each egg is cut from natural stone, so the banding, color depth, and exact pattern are unique to your piece.
