Aria Nature's Raw Unsalted Pecans (Shelled) - Parrot Treat & Training Reward - 8oz

About: Raw Unsalted Pecans (Shelled) Offer your parrot a rich, flavorful reward with raw, unsalted shelled pecans, ideal for training, bonding, and controlled treat feeding. Shelled pecans provide the nutritional benefits parrots enjoy—without the hard shell—making them easy to portion into small, high-value reward pieces. From a nutrition science perspective, pecans are high in monounsaturated fats (especially oleic acid), plant-based protein, dietary fiber, and naturally occurring antioxidant compounds (polyphenols and tocopherols). Research on nut consumption in animals and birds highlights the role of these nutrients in cellular protection, energy metabolism, and overall vitality when fed in moderation. Why shelled pecans can be useful in parrot care: High-value training reward: Soft texture and rich flavor make pecans highly motivating for positive reinforcement training. Healthy fats for energy: Monounsaturated fats support energy needs, especially for active or flighted parrots. Antioxidant support: Natural antioxidants help combat oxidative stress, which is a focus area in avian health research. Easier portion control: Shelled nuts allow precise sizing—important for preventing excess fat intake. Important bird-care note: Pecans are very high in fat and calories. Avian veterinary nutrition literature consistently warns that excessive nut consumption can contribute to obesity and hepatic (fatty liver) disease, particularly in species such as Amazons and other parrots prone to weight gain. Pecans should be used sparingly and never as a daily staple. Ingredients 100% Raw, Unsalted Pecans (Shelled) No salt, no roasting, no oils, no additives. Feeding Instructions Use as an occasional treat or training reward, not a complete or primary food. How to offer: Break pecans into small, bite-sized pieces appropriate for your parrot’s size. Offer by hand during training, place in a treat cup, or mix sparingly into enrichment activities. Always ensure nuts are fresh and mold-free, as spoiled nuts can be harmful to birds. Suggested treat portions: (Adjust based on species, size, activity level, and total diet.) Small parrots (budgies, lovebirds, parrotlets): Tiny crumb-sized pieces, once or twice per week Medium parrots (cockatiels, conures, quakers): 1–2 small pieces, 1–2 times per week Large parrots (amazons, African greys, cockatoos, macaws): 2–4 small pieces, 2 times per week Reduce frequency if other nuts or high-fat treats are included. Best practices: Treats (including nuts) should make up only a small percentage of total daily intake. Maintain a foundation diet of quality formulated pellets and fresh vegetables, as supported by avian nutrition research. Provide fresh water daily and store pecans in a cool, dry, airtight container to preserve freshness.
