Sharpening Stone #1000

Niwaki's sharpening stones are designed for secateurs, but are also great for shears, clippers and other blades. The concave edge follows the curve of the blade perfectly, and they’re small enough to get into tight spots.  The #1000 is a fine grit, for regular sharpening - the most useful stone for every day sharpening. Use it for a few minutes every week to keep your secateurs in top condition.  See use instructions below, but the golden rule is to soak thoroughly each time before use. And not to drop them. Made by: Niwaki Made in: Osaka, Japan Specifications: 5 1/4" x 3/4" x 1 1/8" Use:  Soak stones in water for a few minutes before use, and keep wet during use FOR SECATEURS: Use the concave edge of the stone, moving from the pivot towards the tip of the blade, following the curve as you go FOR STRAIGHT BLADED SHEARS: use the flat side of the stone Move back and forth along the whole length of the blade Use as much of the stone as possible, not just the top inch This is a gentle action - don’t use too much pressure Next, turn the secateurs over, and use the flat side of the stone to smooth the burr off the inside of the blade, going slightly over, creating a very fine bevel Use the convex edge of the stone to clean off the curved edge of the bypass Finally, clean and dry the secateurs, and wipe with Camellia Oil Further Reading: Niwaki (knee-whacky) means garden tree. In Japan, gardens are both landscapes and microcosms of nature. Shaping and caring for these landscapes is an art form, and having the correct tools is essential. Niwaki’s tools exemplify the good design and quality construction that we look for as purveyors.
