Shark! Book

YOU’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BOOK. These ancient creatures have prowled our deep blue seas for 400 million years, and the silver screen for nearly a century. But how did these voracious predators of the deep become the ultimate underwater cinema terror? Shark movie historian Christian Bogh is your guide for this deepest dive ever into the world of celluloid selachimorpha: Beginning with the shark movie that won a 1931 Oscar® to Steven Spielberg’s 1975 blockbuster and beyond, these are the beloved thrillers, eager sequels, grisly shockers, foreign knockoffs, brazen rip-offs and modern popcorn classics that still make moviegoers think twice about going back in the water. Bogh examines shark mythology and folklore, explores more than 160 shark movies and interviews shark movie directors from the USA, Australia, Russia and more. From oceanic facts to cinematic fiction, from the sublime to the ridiculous, from tail to teeth, welcome to the jaws of an unstoppable genre and discover how sharks have taken a massive bloody bite out of global film history. This large-format, full-color, softcover book measures 19.5cm x 25.5cm x 1.5cm.
