Sew Steady Floating Ruler Base

The Sew Steady Floating Ruler Base is a smart solution for quilters who need added stability and workspace when using a domestic sewing machine on a quilting frame without a solid platform underneath. Designed specifically for quilting frames that use a rail system, this Floating Ruler Base provides a smooth, supportive surface directly attached to your sewing machine rather than relying on legs that rest on a table or platform. Measuring 13-1/2″ x 13-1/2″, it offers generous space around the needle area, helping your ruler glide smoothly while improving stitch control and visibility during free-motion quilting. Each Floating Ruler Base is custom-fit to your specific sewing machine make and model, ensuring proper alignment and performance. It secures firmly to your machine using a series of thumb screws and a back bracket, creating a stable extension even when a traditional ruler base isn’t an option. While Sew Steady recommends their Domestic or Long Arm Ruler Bases whenever a setup allows for leg support—since those provide maximum stability—the Floating Ruler Base is an excellent alternative for frames that cannot accommodate a standard base. If your quilting frame doesn’t offer a solid surface beneath the machine, the Sew Steady Floating Ruler Base bridges the gap beautifully, giving you the confidence, control, and workspace needed for precise ruler work—no platform required.
