Senna meridionalis

Senna meridionalis is a rare and highly collectible shrub or small tree native to Madagascar, where it grows naturally in seasonally dry tropical regions. It develops a thick, sculptural trunk and irregular branching that gives it a naturally bonsai-like appearance. Its delicate pinnate foliage provides a beautiful contrast against the rugged trunk, while bright yellow flowers may appear on mature specimens. Its unusual form and Madagascar origin make it especially desirable among collectors of caudiciforms and other distinctive specimen plants.   ☀️ Light Provide very bright light to full sun. Several hours of direct sunlight encourages compact, sturdy growth. Gradually acclimate plants to intense direct sun to prevent scorching. 💧 Water Water thoroughly during active growth, then allow the soil to dry substantially before watering again. Reduce watering considerably when growth slows or the plant drops its leaves during cooler weather. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet. 🌱 Soil Use a very fast-draining cactus or succulent mix amended generously with pumice, perlite, lava rock, or other mineral material. Excellent drainage is important for preventing root rot. 🌡️ Temperature Prefers warm temperatures and should be protected from frost. For best results, keep above approximately 50°F. 💦 Humidity Low to average household humidity is ideal. Good airflow is beneficial, particularly in more humid environments. 🌿 Fertilizer Feed with a diluted balanced fertilizer approximately once every 4 to 6 weeks during active growth. Reduce or discontinue fertilizer when the plant is dormant. 📏 Growth Habit A slow-growing shrub or small tree with a naturally sculptural, bonsai-like form, branching stems, and delicate pinnate foliage. It may become deciduous during periods of drought or cooler temperatures.
