Selenite, a Gypsum derivative (Gypsum is a very soft mineral; hardness:2 on the Mohs Scale), is formed when sea water is isolated and evaporates, leaving minerals to form into this unique variety of Gyp. Gypsum is one of the most common minerals in sedimentary environments. Selenite is composed of oxygen, sulphur, hydrogen, calcium and water which is hydrated calcium sulphate ( CaSO4.2H20) a common mineral found in sedimentary rocks. It is believed to be beneficial to the spinal column, skeletal system and muscular structure. Therefore it is commonly used in children’s rooms for growing bones.
