Seidenfadenia mitrata

Introducing Seidenfadenia mitrata, a delicate and fragrant orchid native to the lush landscapes of Thailand and Burma. With its captivating semiterete leaves and flower spikes emerging gracefully from the base, this orchid is a stunning addition to any collection. Cultivating Seidenfadenia mitrata is a delightful experience, provided you attend to its specific needs. As a warm-growing orchid, it thrives in environments with high humidity, reminiscent of its natural habitat in the lowlands of Myanmar and Thailand. To mimic its preferred conditions, ensure a semi-humid environment and maintain temperatures between 55°F to 95°F. Watering Seidenfadenia mitrata every 2-4 days is essential for optimal growth and care. However, be mindful not to overwater, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot. Finding the right balance is key to keeping this orchid flourishing. Come springtime, Seidenfadenia mitrata rewards your efforts with exquisite blooms, boasting multiple spikes adorned with approximately 10 delicate flowers per spike. Each bloom emits a subtle, sweet scent, filling your space with a touch of floral elegance. When it comes to light, Seidenfadenia mitrata prefers low to medium levels, making it suitable for morning or afternoon sun exposure. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight for extended periods, as this can scorch its delicate foliage. In terms of care, treat Seidenfadenia mitrata akin to Vanda orchids, particularly those with terete leaves. Strap-leaf Vandas have flat or V-shaped, leathery leaves, while terete Vandas boast tapering, pencil-shaped leaves. Ensuring the five essential elements—temperature, light, air movement, water, and fertilizer—are properly balanced will keep your Seidenfadenia mitrata thriving. This is a blooming size, mounted or potted in a 3” basket, about 12" to 18" leaf long; about 1 to 2 years to bloom, grown from seed, limited! Bring the beauty and fragrance of Southeast Asia into your home with Seidenfadenia mitrata. Elevate your orchid collection and delight in the graceful charm of this captivating species.
