Seeking Support (PDF)

Seeking support is often considered a basic skill — but in reality, it can be one of the hardest things to do. It can seem like admitting weakness or being a burden. However, research shows that help-seeking behavior is improving — stigma is decreasing, and support networks are growing. The Seeking Support handout helps clients understand that asking for help is a sign of strength. It outlines different types of support and who they can turn to, such as family members, friends, or teachers. This coping skill handout also includes 5 clear steps to ask for help, along with a final reminder at the bottom. Young people using this handout can feel more connected, supported, and prepared to face challenges with others by their side. Caring adults can help by keeping communication open, sharing contact info for trusted resources, and reminding them that help is always an option. *This item is an instant digital download.
