Scrap for War

Lithograph on wove paper. Trial proof; it is uncertain that an edition of this print, which seems very scarce, was ever printed. Printed by Harold Emerson Keeler, who was based in Denver at the time of this edition. Signed, dated, titled, and annotated "9th Trial Proof" in pencil. NOTE: Sadly prescient, an amalgamation of metal scraps with an air of rockets and tanks has been stocked in heaps. Two boys approach what looks like a manhole prudently. Their pose seems to suggest they expect something is about to blow out of this conduit. Two dogs nearby are similarly perplexed by what this all means. Given this lithograph was created in 1939, one can only assume Charles Ramus remembered what happened the last time nations amassed weaponry; having lived through the end of World War I. He very probably could feel it coming again.
