Using Your Wooden Scottish Spurtle Spurtles originated in the Scottish Highlands in the 15th century and have since become a staple in breakfast cooking. The spurtle is a turned wooden cooking utensil designed as the ideal tool for stirring your favorite porridge or oatmeal. Our spurtle is tapered, making it easy to hold and use for stirring cereals as well as soups, stews, and broths. The handle is in the traditional shape of a thistle, the national flower of Scotland. Our Scottish spurtle is made from locally sourced American Black Cherry. Lancaster Cast Iron spurtles are turned and sanded to give them a smooth even finish. 11” Scottish spurtle Made from Pennsylvania Black Cherry Used for stirring porridge, oatmeal, and stews Made in Lancaster, PA
