Process & Profile Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs was first introduced in 1965, becoming the first commercially produced Chardonnay-based sparkling wine in the United States. Its production exemplifies meticulous craftsmanship, beginning with Chardonnay grapes sourced from premier vineyards across California's North Coast. The base wine combines stainless-steel fermentation for bright acidity with small lots of barrel-fermented Chardonnay, some undergoing malolactic fermentation to add richness and complexity. The wine undergoes its second fermentation in the bottle and is aged on yeast lees for up to two years, delivering a creamy texture and persistent, fine bubbles. This sparkling wine is celebrated for its dry, crisp structure and the ability to maintain freshness and refinement for many years, making it both timeless and distinctive among premium American sparklers. Tasting Notes Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs is a sensory delight. On the nose, it offers captivating aromas of fresh Granny Smith apple, Meyer lemon, toasted almonds, and hints of baked pineapple. The palate delivers vibrant flavors of crisp apple, white peach, and zesty citrus, complemented by notes of ginger and vanilla chiffon. Its creamy mousse and refreshing acidity lead to a long, palate-cleansing finish. Whether you're savoring the 2020 vintage with its additional layers of grapefruit and apple tart or the 2021 vintage's bright mandarin and brioche notes, Blanc de Blancs consistently showcases a lively and focused character. What Makes It Special Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs is a trailblazer. It gained international recognition in 1972 when it was served during President Nixon's historic "Toast to Peace" in Beijing, showcasing it as a symbol of American winemaking excellence. Its Chardonnay foundation differentiates it from the Blanc de Noirs counterpart, highlighting a pure white grape expression. The blend of stainless-steel and barrel fermentations creates a wine of layered complexity, and its aging process in historic Diamond Mountain caves elevates its finesse. The winery's commitment to sustainability and hand-crafting techniques, including hand-harvesting and riddling, further enhances its distinctiveness among sparkling wines. How to Enjoy Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs is incredibly versatile. Enjoy it as an apéritif or pair it with a variety of dishes: Seafood Pairings: Fresh oysters, crab cakes, ceviche, and grilled sea bass highlight its crisp acidity and citrusy tones. Cheese: Aged Gouda or soft triple creams create a delightful contrast with its rich yet fresh profile. Main Courses: Lemon chicken and Thai curries match well with its vibrant flavors.
