Scarpetta 2022 Chardonnay Friuli

The 2022 Scarpetta Chardonnay from Friuli is a polished and expressive Italian white that melds vibrant acidity with layered fruit and subtle textural richness. Elegant yet direct, this Chardonnay captures regional finesse with a bright, refreshing profile that pairs beautifully with seafood, creamy pastas, and lighter fare. Origins & Craftsmanship Hailing from the historic Friuli Grave and Collio zones of northeastern Italy, Scarpetta 2022 Chardonnay reflects Friuli’s celebrated cool-continental climate and mineral-rich soils. These conditions give the wine its hallmark freshness, vibrant acidity, and clarity of fruit. The 2022 vintage was crafted from hand-harvested Chardonnay grapes fermented primarily in stainless steel to preserve bright aromatics and varietal purity. A portion of the wine saw time on fine lees to enhance mid-palate texture without imparting overt oak weight, allowing natural fruit character and minerality to shine. The winemaking approach favors transparency and balance over overt oak influence, resulting in a Chardonnay that embodies both modern precision and classic Northern Italian tensile strength. Critics Reviews Wine Enthusiast praises its “crisp orchard fruit and citrus layers,” and noting its “refined texture and brilliant freshness” as standout qualities for the vintage. The review highlights its “appealing mineral undertones and lively acidity,” calling it a “versatile, food-friendly Italian Chardonnay.” James Suckling emphasizes “bright lemon zest, green apple, and white peach aromas,” with a palate that is “precise, vibrant, and long-lasting,” and commending its “effortless balance between fruit intensity and crisp acidity.” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate underscores its “clear fruit definition and fine mineral tension,” and noting that “the wine’s purity and laser-like focus make it a compelling example of contemporary Friuli Chardonnay.” Across critics, commentary centers on the wine’s purity of fruit, freshness, and elegant interplay between acidity and texture.
