Key Specifications: Product: Sazerac Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey Mash Bill: Buffalo Trace's Low-Rye Mash Bill (approx. 51% Rye) Proof | ABV: 100 Proof | 50% ABV Age: Minimum 4 Years Distillery: Buffalo Trace Distillery, Frankfort, KY Designation: Limited Release, Bottled-in-Bond Brand History: America's First Cocktail The history of Sazerac Rye is the history of the American cocktail. Its story begins in the 1850s at the Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans, where the Sazerac Cocktail—America's first branded cocktail—was born, originally with French brandy and later with American rye whiskey. The brand became an icon of New Orleans culture. Today, the Sazerac Company and Buffalo Trace Distillery proudly continue this legacy, producing a rye whiskey that is celebrated for its historic character and smooth, balanced profile. This Bottled-in-Bond release is a tribute to the historic standards of quality that defined that era. Tasting Notes: A Bolder, Richer Profile The 100-proof bottling amplifies the classic Sazerac notes into a more intense and complex experience: Nose: A vibrant and aromatic bouquet of dried orange peel, clove, and anise, beautifully layered with notes of sweet vanilla, candied spice, and a pleasant hint of sweet oak. Palate: A wonderfully rich and full-bodied palate. The classic flavors of licorice and citrus are bolder and more pronounced, expertly balanced by a wave of sweet caramel. A robust black pepper and cinnamon spice emerges, a direct result of the higher proof. Finish: The finish is exceptionally long, warm, and satisfying, with lingering notes of peppery rye spice, subtle anise, and a final, sophisticated whisper of toasted oak. Why This Sazerac is a Must-Have: A Legendary Rye, Elevated: This is the classic Sazerac profile you love, presented in a richer, bolder, and more authentic 100-proof format. Bottled-in-Bond Integrity: This historic designation is a U.S. government guarantee of quality, age, and authenticity from a single distilling season. A: It is a U.S. government designation that guarantees a spirit's quality. To qualify, the whiskey must be the product of a single distillery from a single season, aged for at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof. Q: How is this different from the standard Sazerac Rye? A: The standard Sazerac Rye (often called "Baby Saz") is bottled at 90 proof. This Bottled-in-Bond version is bottled at a higher 100 proof and adheres to the strict standards of the Bottled-in-Bond Act, resulting in a bolder, spicier, and more robust flavor profile. Q: What is a Sazerac cocktail? A: The classic Sazerac cocktail is made by chilling an Old Fashioned glass with absinthe (which is then discarded), and then stirring rye whiskey, a sugar cube, and Peychaud's bitters with ice, straining it into the chilled glass, and garnishing with a lemon peel. Q: Is this the same as Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye? A: No. Thomas H. Handy is the cask-strength version of Sazerac Rye from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. It is typically much older and bottled at a very high proof (125+). This 100-proof Bottled-in-Bond is a distinct and separate release. Q: Where can I purchase Sazerac Bottled-in-Bond Rye? A: This would be a limited and highly sought-after release. We recommend contacting our preferred retail partner, Nestor Liquor, to inquire about their inventory and availability.
