Sazerac De Forge XO Cognac

Sazerac De Forge XO Cognac is the flagship of a house first founded in 1782 and recently revived — an Extra Old expression for the drinker who wants real Cognac heritage in the glass rather than a big-name label. Process & Profile Bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof), this XO is built around eaux-de-vie up to twenty years old, all matured in French oak. The house of Sazerac de Forge & Fils traces to Bernard Sazerac de Forge in 1782 — the same Cognac that, by lore, poured into the original New Orleans Sazerac cocktail before rye took over. Dormant for decades, the name was resurrected after Sazerac's 2019 acquisition of Domaine Sazerac de Segonzac, and the XO now anchors a small line alongside a single-vintage and a rare 50-year-old release. On the nose, toffee and marzipan lead into baked berries, toasted almond, candied orange, and gentle spice, lifted by a delicate floral note of crushed rose petal. On the palate, a wave of orange, tangerine, mango, and red berry unfolds over vanilla, caramel, and nutty richness, finished with a touch of peppery spice. The finish is long and smooth, with lingering dried fruit, oak, and a soft warmth. What sets the XO apart is its lineage: this is a genuinely old house brought back to life, and the flagship carries mature 20-year eaux-de-vie at a price that undercuts the grande marque XOs it sits beside. For the curious Cognac drinker, it is a rare chance to taste a rebuilt piece of history. Serve neat in a tulip glass or snifter, or over a single large ice cube; it pairs well with dark chocolate or a slice of orange tart. Frequently Asked Questions What is this Cognac?
