For any 55-gallon barrel project, the Ceramic Blanket Barrel Lining Kit from the Vermont Evaporator Company is the perfect choice! Sapling Efficiency Baffle This heavy-duty steel plate creates a reburn chamber in the Sapling Evaporator when pushed to the back of the barrel to increase your wood-burning efficiency while evaporating! When pulled to the front of the barrel, the Sapling Efficiency Baffle is used to deflect heat while smoking on the Sapling (see Sapling Smoking Package). Barrel Fire Grate The Sapling Fire Grate will aid in the proper draw of your fire and keep coals away from the bottom of your Sapling barrel, extending the life of the barrel.  You can use this heavy-duty grate to improve the longevity and performance of your Sapling whether you are using your unit as an evaporator, grill, smoker, or wood-fired pizza and bread oven! (An evaporation rate is the amount of water that boils off of your sap each hour.) We designed the Sapling Evaporator for ourselves and our fellow hobby sugarmakers. Our recommendations of 5-50 taps are for those hobbyists who collect during the week and boil during the weekend. If you find you have a more flexible schedule and boil during the week, or if you find yourself in possession of an reverse osmosis unit, you can increase your tap count! We have many customers with flexible schedules who use the Sapling for more than 50 taps! [/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”What makes the Sapling special?” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” open=”off”] Weighing in at 100 lbs, the Sapling can easily be moved around the yard or into and out of a garage or barn at your convenience. Affixed with stainless steel bolts, the door of the Sapling Evaporator is larger than those found in barrel stove kits. This extra space allows for ample room to load your firebox to the max! The legs of the Sapling are also taller than those typically found in barrel stove kits. This allows for a more comfortable position when boiling, adding sap, and loading the firebox. The Sapling Evaporator is made from a new, unfinished steel drum that is powder-coated with high-temperature paint to resist cracking, flaking, and corrosion. Limited assembly is required to get the Sapling Evaporator up and running. We’ll send you step-by-step directions, with pictures, to help you with this process. And you can watch a video of how to assemble the Sapling Evaporator here! [/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Durability” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” open=”off”] We’ve been making evaporators since 2015, and we estimate our evaporators will last 10 years at the very least. With some easy maintenance, TLC, and covering the unit when not in use, we expect most Sapling owners will far exceed this estimation. [/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Grilling” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” open=”off”] Grilling Converting the Sapling into a wood-fired grill is as simple as removing the Sapling Evaporator Pan and putting on the Sapling Grill Grates. Once in place, you get a grill surface that offers a large, 20” x 30” grilling space, ready to accommodate all epic, at-home culinary adventures. An expansive grilling space to make food for large groups or even meal prepping! We’ve fit 14 pounds of chicken for grilling, a 15-pound turkey, 40 sausages (veggie or meat)… you get the picture. You can use firewood, charcoal, or a combination of both as fuel. Or throw in some wood chips to elevate your grilling game. Read more on how to grill on your Sapling.
