Sage CLASSIC R8 Fly Rod

OVERVIEW The evolution of a fly angler aligns with the pace at which they fish. Over time, the desire to catch many or large fish shifts toward fishing with intention—on one’s own terms—leading to a slower, more thoughtful approach. Casts become less frequent but more meaningful, filled with a deeper sense of the moment. As pace slows, awareness heightens, and observation takes center stage. Days or weeks are spent waiting for the hatch, and when it finally comes, one cast may be all we get. Inspired by time and place, we learn to slow down and savor the experience, finding there is always more to observe, learn, and feel—including that one perfect fish. INSPIRED BY ANGLING INTENTION A fly rod is made great by its ability to match the angler’s intentions and enhance their feel of the experience. For those choosing to slow down their approach to the water, acute environmental observations become more and more apparent. Not only does this enhance the overall experience through a deeper connection to the venue, but often leads to greater success. The new CLASSIC R8 rods inspire this measured pace while fishing, allowing anglers to take in the surroundings and find the moments they seek. Along the way, a heightened sense of feeling - physically and mentally - increases awareness of situation and equipment. Then, when the opportunity arises, the angler is prepared and the rod performs, translating angling intention and delivering the right cast at the right time. MODERN MATERIALS IN A MODERATE ACTION A key characteristic of our proprietary Revolution 8 graphite material is that it naturally likes to bend - unusual in most high-modulus rods. With the CLASSIC R8, we’ve fully leaned into this characteristic and applied R8 Technology to a deep loading Moderate action, resulting in rod blanks that are astoundingly lightweight and soulful - perfect for fishing at calculated, measured tempos. Due to the fiber purity and resin applications of Revolution 8 graphite, CLASSIC R8 rods retain fast recovery speeds and incredible overall strength while offering an instinctive in-hand feel. This blend of a deep load and fast recovery results in a rod that maximizes smooth energy transfer and overall feel while achieving unprecedented line speed, control, and accuracy. Thanks to R8 materials, the CLASSIC R8 has revolutionized performance at a Moderate action. CLASSIC IN EVERY WAY While the new CLASSIC R8 rods are a culmination of our most advanced materials, componentry, and application-specific tapers to date, the aesthetics span the decades of Sage history and fly fishing itself. Throughout the rod are colors and accents that call to mind the early days of the company, yet they’re presented in unquestionably modern forms and details. We’ve incorporated the highest-quality and most progressive parts and components, from cork and handle shape to guides, wood insert, and reel seat. Overall, the rods are timeless and fit for any generation. We expect they’ll be fished for a lifetime, maybe two. R8 TECHNOLOGY The advanced, leading-edge material behind R8 enables us to shape a rod with a stiffer, stronger backbone but a more sensitive tip and more connected feel. The secret istwofold. First, a proprietary aerospace composite with a greater hoop strength enablesus to dimensionally grow taper diameter more quickly from the tip—while a nano-sintered resin application increases axial resilience and allows us to pack more fiber intothe blank, resulting in that true two-way connection from hand to fly and back forgreater feel, flow and control. NEW AXIAL FIBER FORMULATION Advanced nano-sintered resin application and a more resilient axial fiber allow us to re-profile the dimensional taper to get thicker quicker from tip to butt - resulting in better energy transfer and greater feel. Simply put - a better and more efficient "wiring" of energy. MADE IN THE USA We’re not a big faceless factory, but rather a workplace of craftspeople who design and build the world’s best fly rods and reels using our hands and hearts. We do it by sharing ideas and always asking the next question to find what can be done to make this better. Our rods are built one at time right here on Bainbridge Island, WA, following hundreds of meticulous steps and passing through 23 sets of hands. We’re out there fishing the same places in the same unforgiving conditions that you are. Craftsmanship is applied experience. Lifetimes of it.
