216 Piece Stainless Steel Tapping Screw Assortment

When a tapping screw is going into an outdoor enclosure, a rooftop HVAC unit, or anywhere salt air or standing moisture is part of the environment, a carbon steel screw will show rust within a season — stainless is the right spec from the start. This 216-piece assortment covers stainless steel tapping screws in oval head and pan head styles across #6, #8, and #10 diameters in the most-used lengths, pre-organized in a 12-hole plastic drawer. Unlike self-drilling tek screws, tapping screws require a pilot hole in the material first — the screw then taps the thread and seats, eliminating the need for a separate nut on most thin-material applications. The choice between oval head and pan head is an application decision. Oval heads have a low, rounded profile with a slightly countersunk bearing surface — they seat in a shallow countersink and leave a finished appearance that works well on panels, covers, and trim. Pan heads have a flat bearing surface with a low cylindrical profile — they sit above the material surface and provide greater clamping area, which makes them the standard choice for general panel and equipment assembly. Stainless steel tapping screws are the correct spec for applications where moisture, salt, or corrosive environments would compromise a zinc-plated or black-oxide fastener. The material cost premium over carbon steel pays back on the first application where a rusted fastener strips or seizes on removal.
