Rugosa Rose

Rugosa Rose Bushes are loved not only for their bold-colored blooms but also for their hardy nature and impressive disease resistance. Blooming luscious pink to white flowers contrasting with the plant's dark green foliage make a vibrant addition to any landscape. Botanically referred to as 'Rosa rugosa,' these flowering shrubs are native to northern China, Korea, and Japan. Though beautiful, it is essential to note that they are densely prickly, sprawling plants. Because of their sharp nature, we recommend planting Rugosa Bushes in an area that is not subject to frequent foot traffic. Their thorns do make this plant an excellent impenetrable hedge. Excellent care for these thorny specimens includes partial to full sun and moist but well-drained soil. Rugosas produce the best results when planted in growing zones 2-7. However, this plant is not particular about its environment and can thrive even in coastal areas on dunes. Combine this hardiness to sandy soils and beach habitats with its tomato-shaped rose hips, and you will understand these shrubs' rather outlandish nicknames of "beach tomato" and "sea tomato." The Rugosa Rose plants are used in various landscape projects ranging from borders and screens to flowering hedges and specimen plantings.
