Rue

Rue (Ruta graveolens) is an evergreen herbaceous shrub cherished for its ornamental blue-green foliage and clusters of yellow flowers. Native to Southern Europe, Rue is drought-tolerant and thrives in full sun and poor, well-drained soils, making it a hardy choice for herb gardens, rock gardens, and borders. While its leaves have a strong, bitter aroma that some find unpleasant, this scent helps repel pests and even deer, making it a natural companion plant in the garden. Traditionally, Rue has been used for its medicinal properties, including its potential benefits in treating digestive issues and as an anti-inflammatory. However, care should be taken when handling this plant, as its sap can cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals. Rue is also used in crafts and dried floral arrangements due to its unique foliage, adding both aesthetic and practical value to any garden.
