Ruby Vase Persian Ironwood

Ruby Vase Persian Ironwood (Parrotia persica 'Inge's Ruby Vase')Ruby Vase Persian Ironwood is a narrow, upright tree that delivers strong seasonal color in spaces where a wider canopy would not fit. It brings a clean vertical line to the landscape, then rewards you with a warm fall finish that can glow in mixed plantings. The foliage stays polished through summer, and the tree develops more character with age as the bark begins to show mottled tones. If you want a refined ornamental tree with a tight footprint and four-season appeal, this one checks the boxes. Distinctive FeaturesNew leaves often emerge with red tones before maturing to lustrous green, then shift to orange-red shades in fall. In late winter to early spring, small flowers with red stamens appear on bare branches for subtle early-season interest up close. As the tree matures, exfoliating bark can reveal a patchwork of tan, gray, and green tones that adds winter character. The upright, narrow vase habit makes it especially useful where you want height and structure without crowding nearby plantings. Growing Conditions Sun: Full sun to partial shade, with best fall color and density in full sun. Soil: Well-drained soil is ideal, and it adapts to a range of soils if drainage is reliable. Water: Medium, keep evenly moist during establishment, then water during extended dry periods. USDA Zones: 5 to 8. Mature Size: About 25 to 30 feet tall and 15 to 20 feet wide. Habit: Upright, narrow vase to narrowly oval. Foliage: Green in summer with red-tinged new growth, turning orange-red in fall. Flowers: Small flowers with red stamens in late winter to early spring. Fruit: Not showy. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Use as a vertical accent where its narrow form and orange-red fall color can anchor a main view. Street Tree: Plant along streets or tight planting strips where an upright canopy helps with space constraints. Foundation Accents: Place near corners or taller backdrops to add height and structure without bulk. Driveway and Walkway Lines: Repeat in a row to create a clean, architectural rhythm along hardscape edges. Small Yards: Add four-season character in compact landscapes that cannot handle a wide-spreading tree. Low Maintenance Care Pruning: Prune in late winter to remove crossing branches and refine structure, keeping cuts modest. Watering: Deep water through the first one to two growing seasons to establish a resilient root system. Mulching: Mulch over the root zone to conserve moisture and moderate soil temperatures, keeping mulch off the trunk. Soil Drainage: Avoid persistently wet sites to support long-term vigor and clean growth. General: Provide adequate spacing for mature width and avoid reflected-heat sites if irrigation is limited. Why Choose Ruby Vase Persian Ironwood? Space-Saving Form: Narrow, upright habit fits where many ornamental trees are too wide. Fall Color: Orange-red tones deliver a strong seasonal finish that stands out in mixed landscapes. Winter Interest: Exfoliating bark and a clean silhouette add character after leaf drop. Refined Look: Glossy foliage and a tidy crown create a polished, finished presence. Low Fuss: Once established, it performs reliably with minimal pruning and straightforward care. If you need a narrow ornamental tree with real fall payoff and year-round character, Ruby Vase Persian Ironwood is a strong choice. Give it sun, good drainage, and steady moisture while it establishes, and it will mature into a refined vertical feature that elevates the entire planting.
