Ruby Facet in Sterling Silver Pendant

Rubies are a variety of the mineral corundum (aluminum oxide) and derive their exquisite red color from the presence of chromium within the crystal lattice during formation. The geological processes that give rise to Rubies are primarily associated with metamorphism. In metamorphic rocks subjected to high temperatures and pressures, such as marble and schist, Corundum crystallizes, and when chromium is present, the classic red hue of Rubies emerges. Rubies have a storied history that spans centuries and various cultures. Their allure has been deeply embedded in the world of gemology, royalty, and mythology. In ancient cultures, rubies were associated with the sun and believed to endow their wearers with vitality and strength. In Asian cultures, particularly in regions like Burma (now Myanmar), rubies were regarded as talismans for protection and prosperity. The famous "Pigeon's Blood" rubies from Burma are particularly esteemed for their intense red hue. In European medieval times, rubies symbolized passion and were considered a stone of prophecy.  Measurements: Total Height with Bail: 16mm Pendant Dimensions: H 10mm x W 6mm High-quality stones meet lasting durability with our selection of hand-crafted sterling silver and crystal jewelry.
