Rubin Loza Grape Grappa 1L

Rubin Loza Grape Grappa 1L is a Serbian grape spirit distilled from fermented pomace, bottled at 40% ABV in a 1-liter format. Produced by Rubin Krusevac — Serbia's largest grape, wine, and spirits producer with over 60 years of heritage — Loza represents a regional take on the grape-pomace brandy tradition more commonly associated with Italy. Quick Facts: ABV: 40%  |  Origin: Kruševac, Serbia  |  Style: Grape Pomace Brandy (Loza)  |  Distillery: Rubin Krusevac Production & Heritage Rubin Krusevac, based in the central Serbian city of Kruševac, has operated for more than six decades and stands as the country's largest producer of grapes, wine, and spirits. For Loza, specially selected grape varieties are smashed and left to ferment for approximately three weeks before undergoing traditional distillation in large-series copper stills. This extended fermentation period allows the pomace to develop deeper aromatic complexity before the spirit is separated, producing a brandy rooted in Serbian rakija-making customs but styled after the Italian grappa tradition. Tasting Notes Aroma: The nose opens with delicate pomace character, followed by developing aromas of sweet, sun-dried raisins. A subtle herbal undertone emerges as the spirit breathes in the glass. Taste: On the entry, dry fruitiness comfortably settles across the tongue. The mid-palate reveals fresh grape character with mild herbal complexity, building into a warm, full-bodied core. The texture is smooth and robust without excessive heat for its proof. Finish: The finish carries moderate length, echoing dried fruit and grape skin with a gentle warmth. A lingering herbal note and faint minerality close out the experience cleanly. How to Drink Loza Grappa Loza drinks well at room temperature in a small tulip-shaped glass, which concentrates its pomace aromatics. Slight chilling can tame any residual heat for those new to grape brandy. For cocktails, try it in a Grappa Sour — the dry fruitiness balances well against fresh lemon and simple syrup. A Grappa Espresso (similar to an espresso martini, substituting grappa for vodka) pairs the spirit's grape character with roasted coffee notes. It also works in a Grappa Highball with sparkling water and a twist of lemon peel, keeping the spirit's aromatics front and center in a lighter format. Best For Exploring Serbian and Eastern European spirits traditions After-dinner digestif service following a heavy meal A value-driven alternative to Italian grappa in cocktails Introducing grape brandy to friends familiar only with fruit rakija Frequently Asked Questions What does Loza Grappa taste like? Loza Grappa has a dry, fruity profile dominated by fresh grape and sun-dried raisin notes, underscored by mild herbal complexity. The texture is smooth with a warm, full-bodied character. How does Loza Grappa compare to Italian grappa like Nonino? Italian grappas such as Nonino are typically distilled from specific single-varietal pomace and often aged in various wood types, while Loza uses a blend of Serbian grape varieties fermented for three weeks and released unaged. Loza tends toward a more robust, straightforward profile, whereas premium Italian grappas often emphasize finesse and varietal precision. Is Loza Grappa good for sipping neat? Yes — its smooth body and moderate 40% ABV make it approachable as a room-temperature digestif. A small tulip glass will help focus the pomace aromatics. Where is Loza Grappa made? Loza is produced by Rubin Krusevac in the city of Kruševac, located in central Serbia. The distillery is the largest grape, wine, and spirits producer in the country. What foods pair well with Loza Grappa? Its dry grape character complements aged hard cheeses like Parmesan or Serbian kajmak. Dark chocolate works well against the raisin notes. Grilled stone fruits such as peaches or plums echo its fruity core. Biscotti or almond-based pastries mirror the spirit's subtle nuttiness. Cured meats like prosciutto provide a savory contrast to the grape sweetness. What sizes does Loza Grappa come in? This expression is commonly available in the 1-liter (1L) bottle format, which is standard for many Eastern European spirits. Is Loza Grappa worth the price? Loza positions squarely as a value-tier grape brandy, offering genuine pomace-distilled character at a fraction of the cost of premium Italian grappas. The generous 1L format adds further value for everyday use or mixing. Why Loza Grappa? What distinguishes Loza is its Serbian origin within a category overwhelmingly defined by Italian producers. The three-week fermentation of smashed grape before distillation is notably longer than many grappa producers employ, contributing to the spirit's fuller aromatic development. Backed by Rubin Krusevac's six-decade track record as Serbia's largest grape and spirits operation, Loza carries production-scale consistency that smaller craft operations may not match. For drinkers looking to explore grape pomace brandy beyond Italy — or seeking a versatile, well-priced spirit for digestif service and cocktail experimentation — Loza presents a credible and distinctive option.
