The Royal Navy Windproof Deck Smock is part of The Real McCoy's two piece collaboration with the vintage military collector Saunder's Archive in Nova Scotia Canada. Based on an example from his collection, this smock is a faithful reproduction of what is believed to be the earliest known example of the Windproof Deck Smock worn by British sailors on aircraft carrier flight lines till the 1980s. The Royal Navy introduced this style of windproof smock to replace the bulky and uncomfortable smocks made from PVC and oilskin. This more wearable smock was just as weather proof and made from a tightly woven cotton Ventile® fabric. While pattern of smock was used for decades, the earliest versions did not yet include communication wire clips or enlarged hoods to accommodate radio headsets. This example is made with a AQUAROCK label, a Manchester based company that made weatherproof clothing for British Forces. The smock is made from a high-density, weather resistant cotton fabric that was developed in the 1930s. Using extra-long-staple cotton, the dense cotton fabric is weather resistant as well as breathable making it ideal for sailors working on aircraft carrier decks. Oversized smock fit. hand wash cold. 100% cotton windproof fabric Hard-Twist Contrast cotton twill lining Black oxide treated buckles Oil-coated wooden toggle waist adjuster Cotton thread construction Two front buttoned pockets Billed hood with button neck Oversized Hand wash cold and hang dry Made in Japan MJ25101
