Yes! The Roost Explorer is compatible with most cars, SUVs, and trucks, as long as your vehicle is equipped with a roof rack or bed rack that supports the weight. What do I need to install the Roost Explorer on my vehicle? You’ll need a quality roof rack or truck bed rack with crossbars rated to support at least 175 lbs dynamic weight (for driving) and 600+ lbs static weight (when parked and in use). Always double-check your rack’s specs! How long does it take to set up and pack down the Roost Explorer tent? You’re looking at under 2 minutes for both setup and takedown, thanks to the gas struts and hard-shell clamshell design. It's truly a one-person job. Is a hard-shell rooftop tent really worth it? Absolutely. Hard-shell tents like the Roost Explorer give you faster setup, better durability, and superior protection from the elements compared to soft-shell tents. You’ll appreciate that speed and comfort after a long day on the road. Can I use the Roost Explorer in winter? Yes, and you should! The Roost Explorer is built for four-season camping with insulated walls, a metal base, and a high-density foam mattress. Just add a sleeping bag rated for cold weather, and you're good to go. Will a rooftop tent damage my car? Not at all—when installed correctly. The Roost Explorer mounts securely to your crossbars and never touches the vehicle’s roof. Just be sure your rack is rated for rooftop tents and you’re all set. How much fuel economy do I lose with the Roost Explorer? Thanks to its low-profile aerodynamic shell, most users see only a 1–2 MPG drop when mounted on the roof. Mounting the tent lower (like in a truck bed rack below cab height) can eliminate drag entirely. Is it safe to sleep in a rooftop tent? Definitely. Sleeping in a Roost Explorer keeps you off the ground, away from critters and moisture, and the rigid structure provides excellent stability and security—especially in wind or bad weather. How long does the Roost Explorer last? With regular care, the Roost Explorer can last 5–10 years or more. It's made from automotive-grade aluminum and marine-grade components designed for serious adventuring. Can I keep the Roost Explorer on my vehicle full-time? Yes, many people leave their Roost Explorer mounted year-round. The weatherproof hard shell protects it from rain, snow, and sun. But if you won’t be camping for a while, it’s easy to remove and store. Does the Roost Explorer come with a warranty? Yes! The Roost Explorer is backed by a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. Is a rooftop tent a good investment for travel? 100%. The Roost Explorer turns your vehicle into a mobile basecamp. It’s comfortable, fast to deploy, and lets you camp anywhere with a flat spot to park. It’s the ultimate adventure upgrade.
