Romana Sambuca

Romana Sambuca is a classic Italian anise-flavored liqueur known for its bold, sweet, and aromatic profile rooted in traditional Mediterranean herbal distillation. With pronounced star anise character balanced by gentle botanicals and a velvety texture, it is ideal for sipping neat, pairing with espresso, or serving as the cornerstone of iconic after-dinner drinks. Origins & Craftsmanship Romana Sambuca originates from Italy, where sambuca has been a part of culinary and social culture for generations. It is crafted by distilling or infusing star anise along with a selection of complementary botanicals such as licorice root, elderflower, and other aromatic herbs into a neutral spirit base. Sweetness is added — traditionally through sugar or syrup — to create a liqueur that is smooth, rich, and distinctly aromatic. The name “Sambuca” is believed to derive in part from the Latin sambucus (“elderberry”), referencing traditional herbal knowledge, though star anise is the dominant aromatic influence. Production focuses on extracting the essential oils and aromatic compounds from botanicals so that the finished spirit has intense perfume, balanced sweetness, and clear anise character that persists on the palate. Tasting Profile Nose: Pronounced star anise and licorice, with gentle hints of elderflower, vanilla, and soft citrus. Exceptionally aromatic — the scent itself evokes classic Italian herbal liqueurs. Palate: Sweet and layered, with rich anise flavor up front supported by botanical complexity and a smooth mouthfeel. Notes of spice, floral herb, and a lingering licorice backbone unfold without harshness. Finish: Long and rounded, with continued anise warmth and a gentle sweet-herbal resonance that lingers on the palate.
