Roma Silk Twilly

The Eternal City, seen through Michelangelo's Palazzo dei Conservatori. Michelangelo's impact on civic design was remarkable, especially his vision to unite and embellish the Capitoline Hill, a location of great significance as the heart of ancient Rome. In 1538, he relocated the Roman equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, previously thought to depict Constantine, to the center of this piazza. The Palazzo dei Conservatori, constructed for the city's magistrates, was erected on top of a sixth-century BC temple honoring Jupiter "Maximus Capitolinus". Michelangelo's innovative portico revitalizes traditional concepts.
