This beautiful mare carries a past marked by pain—one now gently washed away by the kindness and care of the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. Here, she will live out her days roaming freely among her new herd family, never again to know abuse, starvation, or cruelty of any kind. When I watched her stand her ground within the herd, she revealed herself as a no-nonsense matriarch—strong, assured, and full of quiet authority. A dame of substance, commanding her place without apology. Once she discovered a soft, sandy patch of earth, she claimed it as her own, all herd members stepped aside as she surrendered to pure joy. She rolled as many times as she felt… until she rose, shaking for what felt like forever, dust swirling around her like gold smoke, a halo of wild grace. In that moment, she was pure spirit—wild, sexy, and free. I really should have named this piece “Janis Joplin” the ultimate female rockstar.
