Robert's Cafe, USA 1950s

Simple but effective, this stylish menu cover was typical of menu design in the mid-century. It features three identical chefs on a cheerful yellow and brown background, two different fonts and a perfectly placed five-point star. There is no indication of the location of Robert’s Café, but the food offering was certainly comprehensive. There was a small menu of Chinese food and a large range of American standards from sandwiches to hamburgers to steak and chops. The no 7 meal of spaghetti and meatball with salad, toast and coffee costs 70c and a mere 40c to take out. A clue to the location of Robert’s Café is in the fish section because fresh ocean perch and Walleyed pike were on offer. These fish are prevalent in the western and northern United States. From the prices, we believe this menu is from the early 1950s and if we find more information on the location, we will update.
