The Poetical Works of Robert Burns | Complete 4 Volume Afton Burns Set | 1909 Talwin Morris Gilt Art Nouveau Bindings | Claude A. Shepperson Illustrations

A handsome complete four-volume 1909 Afton Burns set, presenting The Poetical Works of Robert Burns in its original crimson-red cloth bindings. Designed by the celebrated Glasgow Style book designer Talwin Morris this elaborate gilt Art Nouveau decoration across the boards and spines is striking. Edited with a biographical introduction by Charles Annandale, with music harmonized by Harry Colin Miller and illustrations by Claude A. Shepperson, this complete set brings together Burns’s poetry, songs, color plates, black-and-white illustrations, and—within the fourth volume—printed music. All four volumes retain their gilt edges, lending an additional note of elegance to an already exceptional decorative set. Published in London by The Gresham Publishing Company in 1909. Complete in four volumes, each measuring approximately 6½” x 9”. In very good-plus condition, with tight bindings and clean pages. A gorgeous early twentieth-century Arts & Crafts set for the Robert Burns collector, the Talwin Morris collector, or any library drawn to richly ornamented book design.
