Everything a GX-3R fleet needs to keep calibration in-house — the stand-alone SDM-3R docking station, a 34-liter cylinder of PK Safety's RKI-equivalent four-gas mix, and the ISG demand flow regulator, all in one shipment. Calibration cadence gets harder as a monitor fleet grows. Shipping units out to a service center every six months is expensive and takes them off the job. Running cal cycles on a bench, one monitor at a time, eats a technician's morning. The SDM-3R changes that: drop a GX-3R into the docking station, walk away, and the station charges the unit, runs a bump test, calibrates the sensors, and writes the entire service record to USB — no PC, no software, no login. When a compliance auditor asks when the fleet was last calibrated, the answer is a file, not a search through a spreadsheet. PK Safety services RKI Instruments gas monitors with factory-trained technicians in-house — calibration, bump testing, sensor replacement, and full repair. Our team has been a Factory Authorized Service Center since 2014 and can also handle BW/Honeywell, RAE Systems, MSA, GfG, and Draeger gear, so a mixed fleet ships to one place. Third-generation family-owned since 1947, staffed by people who pick up the phone: 800.829.9580. What's in the kit RKI SDM-3R Stand-Alone Calibration Station (81-SDM3R101) — charging, bump test, and calibration in one unit. Runs without a PC. Service records write to USB for archival and compliance documentation. Ships with 1 solenoid, AC adapter, flash drive, USB cable, and tubing. PK Safety RKI-Equivalent 4-Gas Calibration Mix, 34L (FX34-155-1500) — RKI-formulation cross-reference to 81-0154RK-04. 50% LEL methane (CH4), 12.0% oxygen, 25 ppm hydrogen sulfide, 50 ppm carbon monoxide. Blended and dated by Intermountain Specialty Gases — fresh stock, traceable lot. ISG Demand Flow Regulator with Tubing (R-DF) — nickel-plated brass, C-10 valve, 1 ft of tubing included. Delivers cal gas on demand at the flow the station calls for, so cylinder gas isn't wasted between cycles. Bump test vs calibration — the short version A bump test is a daily go/no-go check: expose the sensor to a known gas concentration, confirm the alarm fires. A full calibration re-references the sensor to that concentration and is scheduled at intervals set by the manufacturer and the site's SOP. The SDM-3R runs both from the same docking cradle. For confined-space work under 29 CFR 1910.146, the monitor has to be in known-good condition before entry — that's what the daily bump test on this station gives the crew, without pulling a supervisor into the loop. Shipping and returns Ships UPS Ground only due to HazMat classification on the calibration gas cylinder — expedited shipping is not available on this kit. Calibration gas is not returnable, so verify the four-gas mix matches the fleet's sensor loadout before ordering. Not sure? Call 800.829.9580 and a technician will confirm the match against the monitor's part number. (PDF) Frequently Asked Questions Does this bundle work with any RKI monitor, or just the GX-3R? The SDM-3R docking station is designed specifically for the RKI GX-3R and GX-3R Pro family. If a fleet runs GX-2012, GX-6000, or older four-gas RKI units, those need a different docking station — call 800.829.9580 and a technician will match the right SDM to the fleet. How often should a GX-3R be calibrated and bump tested? Manufacturer guidance is a bump test before each day of use and a full calibration every six months, at minimum. Sites operating in extreme temperatures, high humidity, or heavy contaminant loads often shorten the calibration interval — the SDM-3R makes daily bump testing routine enough that stretching a cal interval isn't the shortcut it used to be. When in doubt, follow the site's confined-space or hot-work SOP. Is the PK Safety RKI-equivalent cal gas truly equivalent to RKI's own 81-0154RK-04? Yes. The mix is blended to the identical concentrations RKI specifies for the GX-3R four-gas configuration: 50% LEL methane, 12.0% oxygen, 25 ppm hydrogen sulfide, 50 ppm carbon monoxide. It's produced by Intermountain Specialty Gases with lot-traceable certification and dated on the cylinder, so a compliance file can tie a calibration record back to a specific batch of gas. How does the USB service record work for compliance documentation? Every time the SDM-3R runs a bump test or calibration, it writes a record — monitor serial number, sensor readings, pass/fail, timestamp — to the USB drive included in the box. Rotate the drive off the station periodically, drop the records into whatever compliance folder the site uses, and the audit trail exists without anyone having to remember to log it manually. Why does this ship UPS Ground only? Calibration gas cylinders are HazMat-regulated. Air and expedited-ground carriers won't take them at standard rates, so PK Safety ships all cal gas UPS Ground. Plan lead time accordingly — figure 3-6 business days transit depending on the destination. What if the sensor loadout on our GX-3Rs isn't the standard four-gas configuration? Some fleets run three-gas or specialty configurations (adding PID, or swapping LEL for a specific hydrocarbon). This kit's gas mix targets the standard LEL/O2/H2S/CO four-gas GX-3R. If the fleet's sensors don't match, calibration gas is not returnable — so call 800.829.9580 first and a technician will match the mix to the sensor stack. That call is free and saves a wasted cylinder.
