Global Checkup- Ridendo Magazine

This charming cover from Ridendo, the French humor magazine created exclusively for physicians. The playful composition depicts a doctor-like figure auscultating the globe with a stethoscope while a cherub plots coordinates with a compass above, creating an amusing visual metaphor for medicine's global reach. Published in the mid-1930s from the heart of Paris's publishing district, Ridendo served as a welcome respite for French medical professionals, combining sophisticated humor with quality illustration. The bold Art Deco palette of teal, yellow, and coral remains remarkably vibrant, while Touchet's confident linework and caricature style exemplify the golden age of French magazine illustration. A distinctive piece of medical ephemera that bridges the worlds of art, humor, and healthcare history. The complete issue includes period pharmaceutical advertising on the verso, adding documentary value for collectors of interwar French culture.
