Rhodocrosite Stud Earrings $60.00

These stud earrings feature polished rhodochrosite, a manganese carbonate mineral (MnCO₃) known for its rich pink to rose-red coloration. The mineral forms in hydrothermal veins, often alongside silver, lead, and copper ores, and is prized for its striking banded appearance and relatively low hardness compared to other gemstones. Features: Composition: Rhodochrosite is composed of manganese carbonate, often forming in layered structures that show pink, white, and gray banding due to alternating mineral content. Coloration: The vibrant pink to red color is due to the presence of manganese (Mn²⁺). Lighter or darker bands may be caused by iron or calcium substitution during crystal growth. Formation: Found in hydrothermal deposits and manganese-rich sedimentary environments. Notable sources include Argentina, Colorado (USA), and South Africa. Physical Properties: Has a Mohs hardness of 3.5–4, so it is softer than many gemstones and should be handled with care. The polished cabochons used in earrings highlight the natural banding and translucency. Educational Value: Useful for teaching about carbonate minerals, ore deposit environments, and how trace elements influence mineral color. These earrings combine natural mineral beauty with scientific interest, making them ideal for collectors, educators, or geology enthusiasts.
