Inspired by the cut-and-thrust swords of late 15th century Central Europe, the Rhinelander Bastard Sword combines historical styling with a fully functional design made for performance. Its versatile hand-and-a-half hilt, distinctive ring guard, and deeply fullered blade create a handsome profile suited to medieval sword collections and cutting enthusiasts alike. Forged from 5160 high-carbon steel, the blade is hardened to approximately 54 HRC for a balance of edge retention and resilience. A deep, ridged fuller runs along the blade, creating a distinctive profile designed to deliver powerful cuts while remaining capable of effective thrusts. The functional blade is paired with a riveted tang construction. The hilt captures the character of late medieval European sword design. Its crossguard has quillons that curve toward the blade and end in rounded, ball-shaped tips. At the center sits a substantial ring guard, adding protection and giving the sword one of its most recognizable features. Additional rounded detailing accents the middle of the ring guard. A black leather-wrapped hand-and-a-half grip provides plenty of room for versatile handling. A raised central ridge divides the grip in two, allowing for a secure grasp whether wielded with one or two hands. Finishing the hilt is a peened scent-stopper pommel with a smooth profile designed to rest comfortably against the hand. The Rhinelander Bastard Sword comes complete with a leather-wrapped scabbard for carrying the blade at your side. The black scabbard has a metal chape and throat. Whether you appreciate historically inspired European swords, are building a functional medieval armoury, or simply want a capable cutting sword with an eye-catching ring guard, this bastard sword brings together performance and late medieval character.
