The film became a viral sensation before release thanks to M3GAN's unsettling dance moves and sassy personality, turning her into an instant queer icon. Allison Williams stars as the workaholic roboticist who creates M3GAN to care for her orphaned niece, raising questions about technology as a parenting substitute that feel increasingly relevant. Produced by Blumhouse and James Wan, the film's success—grossing $180 million against a $12 million budget—proved that horror-comedy with social commentary remains a winning formula.
