Action-horror gameplay combines survival tension with partner-based combat and resource management. Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar work together through the campaign, with both characters central to combat and story progression. The story is set after the destruction of the Umbrella Corporation, as the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance responds to new biological threats.
