REPLACEMENT GAS CYLINDERS Adapt to any working height • Short, Tall, or X-Tall • Professional-grade Class 4 hydraulics ONE CHAIR, INFINITE CONFIGURATIONS The gas cylinder is the height adjustment mechanism that controls your working position—and in professional audio, lighting, and video work, working height isn't negotiable. You don't adapt to your console. Your chair adapts to you. Whether you're mixing at a towering SSL board, programming lights from a standing desk, or sitting at a compact home studio rig, the right cylinder puts you in the ergonomic sweet spot where comfort meets control. WHY CYLINDER HEIGHT MATTERS: Ergonomic Alignment: Proper height keeps your forearms parallel to the floor, shoulders relaxed, spine neutral—reducing strain during marathon sessions Precision Control: The right height gives you better reach across the console without overextending or hunching ZenWave™ Optimization: The patented forward-lean support only works when you're at the correct height—too high or too low defeats the ergonomic benefits Workflow Efficiency: When you're not fighting your chair height, you work faster and focus better Unlike cheap office chairs where "height adjustment" means a wobbling pneumatic tube that sinks during sessions, Stealth cylinders use Class 4 hydraulic gas springs—the same technology found in aerospace and industrial equipment. They hold your position under dynamic loads without creep, sag, or failure. When you set your height, it stays set. For years. WHEN YOU NEED A NEW CYLINDER: Different workspace: Moving from a home studio to a major facility with taller consoles Standing workflow: Programming lights from elevated positions or using sit-stand workstations Multiple users: Studio chairs shared between engineers of different heights Console upgrade: New board changes your working height requirements Cylinder failure: After years of use, hydraulic seals can eventually wear (though with Class 4 springs, this takes a long time) Tour configuration: Switching between venue FOH positions of different heights Foot ring work: X-Tall cylinders pair with the included foot ring for optimal posture at elevated heights Here's the reality: most "professional" chairs lock you into one height range. Stealth Chairs ship with TWO cylinders (short and tall) precisely because we know professional work happens at different heights. But when you need to go taller—when you're working elevated lighting positions, standing consoles, or non-standard rigs—the X-Tall cylinder gives you 10+ inches of additional range. One chair. Three cylinder options. Any working environment. CYLINDER HEIGHT RANGES Choose the cylinder that matches your working height. All measurements are from floor to top of seat. STEALTH PRO • TOURMAX CASTERS (4") 22" 28" SHORT 22" - 28" 25" 32" TALL 25" - 32" 30" 40" X-TALL 30" - 40" (+ Foot Ring) Best for: Tour environments, festival FOH, stages, venues with uneven surfaces STEALTH PRO • OFFICE CASTERS (2") SHORT 20" - 26" TALL 23" - 29" X-TALL 28" - 38" (+ Foot Ring) Best for: Recording studios, mix rooms, mastering suites, broadcast facilities STEALTH STANDARD • TOURMAX CASTERS (4") SHORT 21" - 27" TALL 24" - 31" X-TALL 29" - 39" (+ Foot Ring) Best for: Tour environments, festival FOH, stages (Standard chair users) STEALTH STANDARD • OFFICE CASTERS (2") SHORT 19" - 25" TALL 22" - 28" X-TALL 27" - 37" (+ Foot Ring) Best for: Home studios, project studios, compact control rooms WHICH CYLINDER DO YOU NEED? START HERE: MEASURE YOUR IDEAL WORKING HEIGHT Step 1: Sit at your console/desk in your current chair (or a similar chair) at a comfortable working height Step 2: Measure from the floor to the top of your seat cushion Step 3: Match that measurement to the cylinder range that includes it Pro tip: If your ideal height falls in the overlap between two cylinders, choose the taller one—you want headroom for adjustment as your working position changes throughout the day. COMMON SCENARIOS: Standard Mixing Console (32-36" desk height) SHORT CYLINDER for most users • Puts you at optimal forearm-parallel position for standard console heights Large Format Console (38-42" desk height) TALL CYLINDER recommended • SSL, Neve, and other large-format boards sit higher—you need the extra range Lighting Control / Standing Desks (42-48"+ height) X-TALL CYLINDER + FOOT RING required • Elevated working positions need maximum height range and foot support Compact Home Studio (28-32" desk height) SHORT CYLINDER perfect • Project studios with lower working surfaces benefit from the lower range Multi-User Studio Chair TALL CYLINDER versatile choice • Covers the widest range of users and console heights REMEMBER: EVERY STEALTH CHAIR SHIPS WITH TWO CYLINDERS Your chair already came with Short AND Tall cylinders. The X-Tall is for specialized applications requiring extreme height adjustment—lighting positions, standing consoles, or very tall users working elevated surfaces. INSTALLATION: 2-MINUTE CYLINDER SWAP NO TOOLS REQUIRED • COMPRESSION FIT DESIGN 1 Remove the seat from the cylinder Flip the chair upside down. Using a rubber mallet or dead-blow hammer, tap the underside of the seat mechanism around where the cylinder connects. A few firm taps breaks the compression fit and the seat lifts off the cylinder. 2 Pull the old cylinder from the base With the seat removed, grip the cylinder and pull it straight up out of the chair base. It should slide out easily. If it's stuck, a few taps with the mallet from underneath usually frees it. 3 Insert the new cylinder into the base Drop the new cylinder straight down into the center socket of the chair base. It should slide in smoothly and sit flush. The tapered design ensures proper alignment. 4 Reinstall the seat and test Align the seat mechanism with the top of the cylinder and press firmly down—you may hear a satisfying "pop" as the compression fit engages. Flip the chair upright and test the height adjustment lever. Done. Total time: 2 minutes. Seriously. This is designed for field replacement with zero technical skill required. The compression-fit design is intentional—it creates a secure, rattle-free connection that can be serviced anywhere, anytime, with basic tools. No threading. No fasteners. No alignment issues. Just solid engineering. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Hydraulic Class: Class 4 Gas Spring Material: Chrome-Plated Steel Weight Capacity: Up to 350 lbs Adjustment Type: Pneumatic Lever Control Installation: Compression Fit (No Tools) Available Sizes: Short • Tall • X-Tall COMPATIBILITY: Universal fit for all Stealth and ErgoLab chair models. These are genuine OEM replacement cylinders—identical to what shipped with your chair. The Class 4 hydraulic gas spring provides smooth, reliable height adjustment without the creep, sag, or catastrophic failure common in cheap office chair cylinders. Designed to maintain pressure integrity through tens of thousands of adjustment cycles. CLASS 4 HYDRAULICS: WHY IT MATTERS Gas cylinders are classified by the European Federation of Gas Springs (EUROFER) based on quality, safety, and performance characteristics. Most office chairs use Class 2 cylinders—the bare minimum. They're cheap, they wear fast, and they fail unpredictably. Stealth Chairs use Class 4—the highest rating for commercial/industrial applications. WHAT CLASS 4 CERTIFICATION MEANS: Pressure retention: Maintains consistent force over years, not months—no sagging mid-session Seal integrity: High-grade seals prevent gas leakage and hydraulic failure Cycle testing: Rated for 100,000+ compression cycles (compare to Class 2's ~25,000) Load bearing: Supports full rated capacity (350 lbs) without performance degradation Safety standards: Meets strict European safety regulations for industrial use Material quality: Chrome-plated hardened steel shaft resists scoring and corrosion Here's what this means in practice: a Class 4 cylinder maintains its specified height range for years. A cheap Class 2 cylinder might start at 19"-25" but after six months of use, it's effectively 20"-23" because the hydraulic pressure has degraded. You lose range. You lose precision. Eventually, you lose support entirely as the cylinder fails to hold pressure. Professional equipment deserves professional components. When you're eight hours into a mix and your chair slowly sinks, taking you out of your ergonomic sweet spot, you're not just uncomfortable—you're losing focus, efficiency, and money. Class 4 cylinders eliminate this problem entirely. X-TALL CYLINDER: SPECIALIZED APPLICATIONS The X-Tall cylinder provides 10+ inches of additional height range beyond the Tall cylinder—but this isn't a "bigger is better" situation. The X-Tall is purpose-built for specific professional applications where standard height ranges don't cut it. WHEN YOU NEED X-TALL: Lighting Control Positions Lighting consoles and control surfaces are often elevated 40-48" to provide clear sightlines to the stage. X-Tall + foot ring keeps you ergonomically supported at these heights. Standing/Perching Workflow Sit-stand desks and elevated workstations require maximum height range. X-Tall lets you perch comfortably during standing sessions without compromising support. Very Tall Users (6'4"+) If you're significantly taller than average, even standard tall consoles may require X-Tall cylinder height to maintain proper ergonomic positioning. Non-Standard Console Heights Custom-built consoles, retrofit installations, or unique studio configurations may require extreme height adjustment that only X-Tall can provide. CRITICAL: X-TALL REQUIRES THE FOOT RING At elevated heights (30"+), proper ergonomics demand foot support. Every Stealth Pro chair ships with an adjustable foot ring specifically for use with tall and X-Tall cylinders. Do not use X-Tall cylinder without the foot ring installed—dangling legs at extreme heights defeats the ergonomic benefits and causes circulation issues. REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS TOURING ENGINEERS: Every venue has different FOH riser heights. Carry Short, Tall, and X-Tall cylinders in your road case. Swap cylinders in two minutes on load-in to match the venue's working height. No compromising ergonomics because the promoter built a 48" riser. MULTI-ROOM FACILITIES: Studio A has an SSL at 40" working height. Studio B has a compact Avid at 32". Same chair, different cylinders. Keep spare cylinders at each room and swap as needed. Two-minute changeover between sessions. LIGHTING DESIGNERS: Stage positions often require elevated seating for sightlines. X-Tall cylinder with foot ring support keeps you comfortable during marathon programming sessions at heights that would destroy a standard office chair. FREELANCE ENGINEERS: Working at different studios every week? Bring your chair. Bring your cylinders. Dial in your exact working height in minutes, regardless of where you're mixing. Your back doesn't care what studio you're in—it needs proper support, every time. WHEN TO REPLACE YOUR CYLINDER Class 4 cylinders are built to last, but nothing lasts forever under professional use. Here's how to know when it's time for a replacement: FAILURE INDICATORS: Slow sinking: Chair slowly lowers during use even without activating the lever—hydraulic seal failure Won't hold height: Lever works but chair won't stay at selected height—internal spring fatigue Visible damage: Scratched, scored, or dented cylinder shaft—compromises hydraulic seal integrity Reduced range: Maximum/minimum heights don't match specifications—gas pressure loss Excessive years: After 10+ years of daily professional use, replacement is good preventive maintenance Gas cylinders cannot be repaired. When the hydraulic seal fails or the gas pressure drops, replacement is the only solution. The good news? At $52.99, cylinder replacement is cheap insurance against chair failure. And with Stealth's compression-fit design, you can swap it yourself in two minutes. SERVICEABILITY IS A FEATURE, NOT A BUG Most chair manufacturers don't sell replacement cylinders. When your cylinder fails, they expect you to buy a whole new $750+ chair. That's wasteful. That's expensive. That's terrible for the environment. And it's absolutely ridiculous when the chair frame, seat mechanism, and all the ergonomic technology are still perfect. We stock replacement parts because professional equipment should be built to last—and maintained for a lifetime. A $53 cylinder replacement vs. a $750 chair replacement. The math is simple. This cylinder represents our core philosophy: professional equipment should be built to last, easy to maintain, and impossible to make obsolete. When a component fails after years of professional use, you replace the component—not the entire chair. That's how professional gear works. That's how Stealth Chairs work. Made from premium chrome-plated steel with Class 4 hydraulic gas springs, these replacement cylinders provide the same performance, reliability, and longevity as the original. Because when your tool works, you keep using it. PRO TIPS: CYLINDER MAINTENANCE KEEP THE SHAFT CLEAN The chrome shaft should stay clean and free of debris. Dust, grit, or spilled liquids can score the shaft surface when it compresses, damaging the internal seals. Wipe down the exposed shaft periodically with a clean microfiber cloth—takes 10 seconds, extends cylinder life by years. DON'T OVER-PRESSURIZE Cylinders are rated to 350 lbs, but if you're regularly loading them beyond capacity, you're shortening their lifespan. The hydraulic seals are precision-engineered for specific pressure ranges—exceeding those ranges causes premature wear. PROTECT DURING TRANSPORT If you're touring with your chair, make sure the cylinder shaft is protected in your road case. A dented or scored shaft will leak gas and fail. Some touring engineers remove the cylinder during transport and pack it separately—overkill for most, but if your chair is critical to your workflow, it's cheap insurance. STOCK A SPARE For studios and touring rigs: keep a spare cylinder in your parts inventory. When a cylinder fails mid-session or mid-tour, you don't want to be waiting for shipping. Swap it in two minutes and keep working. At $53, it's the cheapest spare part you'll ever stock.
