Well-appointed gardens become a delightful place of respite from the madding crowd. We offer so many gorgeous landscape plants to decorate your personal paradise. For a lovely look all year long, choose ReJoyce Coast Leucothoe (Leucothoe axillaris 'ReJoyce')! This native broadleaf evergreen selection offers visual interest all year long. With a dense, compact growth habit, romantically arching branches, and ultra-glossy foliage, this small shrub brings supermodel looks to your landscape! Tropical bamboo-like foliage in glossy dark green, but from the early days of spring, the new growth develops as a showy bright red. The color is contrasted by last year's crimson growth for an exquisite accent to welcome the new season. White carillons of bell-shaped blooms line the length of arched racemes. Their gleaming petals are prominent against the lustrous foliage for a delicate springtime feature. Delight in their softly fragrant blooms, because the local butterflies and bees certainly will! You can feel proud of this beneficial native cultivar as a nectar resource for essential pollinators! Landscape Application: People across the lower United States are utilizing this broad-leaved evergreen as a hedging plant. Mix into your Boxwood, or Distylium to add recommended bio-diversity to your plantings! These native cultivars are woodland residents that thrive beneath a tree canopy! ReJoyce is fantastic in the ground, in courtyards, in smaller modern lots, and even in containers! Line your formal planting beds to add structure, pretty texture, and outstanding color. Open that special bottle of Merlot you've been saving. It will be color-coordinated with your Leucothoe backdrop! Growing just 2-3 feet in height and width, ReJoyce is a wonderfully space-saving shrub! Grow them in the ground, or keep them as lovely container plants on Roof Gardens or balconies. Wait until the fall temperature hits, and you'll be happily surprised by a jolt of wine-red foliage color for autumn. Northern growers can plant theirs in more sun, but hot climates should consider a location with afternoon shade to full shade. Despite their leathery texture, the leaves are easily damaged by winter wind and hot sun. Plant in a protected location so northern drying winter winds won't burn the leaves. Provide regular water access for new installations and do not let them dry out. These hardy shrubs handle occasional flooding and high moisture sites. Water your shrubs very well in the autumn so they do not go into a cold climate winter with dry roots. A 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch or bark chips and/or compost is essential for a stress-free shrub!
