That said, if you can save up for a new Planar 1, go for that instead. The more I used the turntable, the more I realised that this is not just a budget turntable, it’s the ultimate budget turntable. It does everything that a budget turntable can do and should do in terms of its consideration towards the customer but also its respect for the ears of the same in its search for top quality sound for the asking price. In those terms, the Planar 1 sets itself up as the standard which every other budget turntable seeks to emulate. From the installation to the final play, the Rega Planar 1 is not just outstanding, it has actually changed the nature of the market at this level. On this basis, I have no choice but to award it the highest rating I have in my armoury, the ultra-rare Golden Groovy. I have details of almost 250 products reviewed on this site. This is only the fourth time that I’ve awarded such a rating. That’s how good this turntable is…" Rega Planar 1 review - Read More "In these times bereft of certainty, there is far worse you could do than to close the curtains, settle in your favourite armchair and spin a few records on the new Rega Planar 1." - What Hi-Fi?     Rega Planar 1 review - Read More "The Rega Planar 1 may be an entry-level turntable but, with such a long and proud reputation to uphold, Rega was never going to churn out any old rubbish. The Planar 1 still exceeded our expectations, though. Set-up is a piece of cake and the sound quality is absolutely fantastic for the money – no wonder it sits at number one on our list of the best budget turntables. A built-in phono stage would've been the icing on the cake, but you can get one of those by opting for the slightly more expensive Rega Planar 1 Plus." - Louder   Rega Planar 1 Review - Read More "One of the very best entry-level hi-fi turntables – if not the best." - Simon Osborne-Walker     Rega Planar 1 Turntable Reviewed - Read More "The Rega Planar 1 turntable is a great turntable that can get a music lover into high-fidelity vinyl enjoyment in an affordable manner. There are a few nits to be picked; however, at $595.00 it’s unrealistic to expect a turntable to do it all.  In terms of musical performance, the Planar 1 excels.  The Planar 1 made its way into my system with the understanding that one day it will be replaced by something with a little more sophistication. However, this upgrade desire has not struck me in three years of ownership. " - Michael Zisserson     Rega Planar 1 review - Read More "This might be an entry-level turntable, but you’d never know it from a performance as good as this. It won’t offer all the bells and whistles of something like the Audio Technica AT-LP5, but if you’re looking for pure audio ability, the Planar 1 is hard to top. So much so, many might never feel the need to upgrade."    Review: Rega Planar 1 - Read More "Ragingly festive and engaging turntable with bucket loads of dynamism and zest. " - Lasse Svendsen   Rega Planar 1 - Read More "Brilliant sound, fantastically easy to set up, and with options for easy upgrading. Run and buy.
