Reformed Dogmatics - 1 volume, abridged

A leading expert on Herman Bavinck and his works, John Bolt has edited this great work by Bavinck into a single abridged volume, accessible for laymen, pastors, and teachers. Few works in Christian theology combine breadth, depth, historical awareness, and spiritual warmth as powerfully as Herman Bavinck’s Reformed Dogmatics. Now translated from Dutch to English and originally a work in four volumes, it is widely regarded as the crowning achievement of one of the most important Reformed theologians of the modern era—a true “magnum opus” that continues to shape pastors, scholars, and serious readers of theology today.  At its heart, Reformed Dogmatics is not merely a textbook—it is a theological cathedral. Bavinck brings together Scripture, the church’s historical reflection, and philosophical rigor, combining these into a unified vision of the Christian faith from a thoroughly Biblical and fundamentally Reformed perspective. Drawing on voices from Augustine of Hippo to Thomas Aquinas, and from John Calvin to Friedrich Schleiermacher, Bavinck demonstrates that Reformed theology is not narrow or sectarian, but deeply catholic, in the truest sense of the word. It is rooted in the whole history of the church. Herman Selderhuis notes the enduring relevance of this masterwork of Reformed theology: “Neither conservative nor progressive… its biblical character makes it constantly up-to-date." "Bavinck's magisterial Reformed Dogmatics remains after a century the supreme achievement of its kind."--J. I. Packer, Regent College Herman Bavinck (1854-1921) succeeded Abraham Kuyper as professor of systematic theology at the Free University in Amsterdam in 1902.  John Bolt (PhD, University of St. Michael's College) is professor of systematic theology emeritus at Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Bolt has helped Reformed Fellowship by lending his expertise in reviewing the manuscript for "Herman Bavinck", the children's biography published by Reformed Fellowship in 2025. The late John Vriend translated many classic theological works.
