Red Double Knock Out® Rose

What Makes Red Double Knock Out® Rose Special? It blooms non-stop with cherry-red double flowers from spring to frost while being virtually maintenance-free. What Growing Conditions Does It Need? Red Double Knock Out® Rose thrives in USDA zones 5-9 and needs full sun with at least 6 hours of direct light daily. Plant in well-drained soil with organic amendments. This compact shrub reaches 3-4 feet tall and wide at maturity. Give it moderate water once established and ensure good air circulation around the plant. While drought-tolerant when mature, regular watering produces the most abundant blooms. How Do I Plant and Care for Red Double Knock Out® Rose? Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Mix in compost and place the plant at the same depth it was growing in the container. Water thoroughly and apply 3-4 inches of mulch. For hedges, space plants 2 feet apart on center. Apply slow-release rose fertilizer in early spring and mid-summer. The best part? No deadheading needed - spent blooms fall off naturally. Prune only if desired in early spring to shape or reduce size. Wear gloves when handling as thorns are sharp. For a complete seasonal care calendar and pruning tips, see our Knock Out Roses Complete Guide. What Are the Key Benefits? This rose delivers waves of double red blooms that keep coming all season without the fuss of traditional roses. You'll have enough flowers for cutting bouquets while still enjoying a full display in the garden. Disease resistance to black spot, powdery mildew, and rust means no spraying or special treatments It even handles humidity and drought like a champ once established Pollinators love the blooms, and you'll enjoy orange rose hips and purple fall foliage after frost Perfect for foundation plantings or containers on sunny patios What Should I Know Before Buying? Plant in spring after last frost or in fall before first frost for best establishment. More sun equals more flowers - aim for at least 6 hours daily. Poor drainage will cause problems, so amend clay soils or plant in raised beds. Pair with other Knock Out® varieties for a colorful hedge or mix with lavender and ornamental grasses. Consider adding Root Booster at planting for faster establishment. Remember this rose has thorns, so keep away from high-traffic paths. Container growing works great for patios - just use a pot at least 18 inches wide.
