Red Clover (Trifolium Pratense) - Liquid Extract (Tincture)

Red Clover (Trifolium Pratense) Liquid Tincture: Red Clover is best known for its ability to help alleviate traditional menopausal symptoms. It contains estrogen-mimicking flavonoids (called phytoestrogens) which can contribute to maintaining normal estrogen levels during menopause. This is especially helpful in reducing hot flashes and night sweats. Studies have also shown that red clover improves cardiovascular health and lowers the bone density loss in menopausal women. Its estrogen-like properties also help make arterial walls more flexible, thus easing strain on the heart and making it harder for blood clots to form. Other research shows that Red Clover’s isoflavones may slow down bone loss and even increase mineral density in menopausal women, reducing the risk of osteoporosis. Red Clover also has a long folk tradition of being used to help expectorate mucous from the lungs and suppressing cough. It is commonly prescribed by herbal practitioners for respiratory conditions such as whooping cough, bronchitis, asthma, and colds... and in terms of Chinese Medicine, we would say that Red Clover clears heat, tonifies Lung yin, and stops cough. Red Clover also boosts circulation, which in turn speeds up the body’s natural elimination process; this, then, can help to clear skin conditions by moving the waste that builds up beneath the skin’s surface. This herb can also be applied externally to bring relief from such skin conditions as eczema, psoriasis, and rashes (i.e. skin conditions marked by heat signs such a redness and being warm to the touch). There are also some precautions associated with using red clover: do not take it if you are taking blood-thinning medication. Due to its blood thinning effects, drinking Red Clover is not recommended before surgery as it may exacerbate surgical bleeding. Red Clover is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation because it contains phytosterols, with estrogenic and abortifacient properties; also not recommended for those taking birth control pills or anyone at high risk of breast cancer.
