Razor Voice | Assassin Series No. 002 | Custom-Voiced Vintage Wah

RAZOR VOICE Video Showcase Video 1 Video 2 Video 3 Assassin Series No. 002 Precision Voice Every wah has a target. Riffs guaranteed. Inspiration expected. This is not a neutral, all-purpose wah. It is a riff maker, lick maker, and idea generator, purpose-built around a very specific personality: tight • precise • vocal • high-gain articulate • exceptional low-string clarity • fast sweep response The right pedal does not just change your tone. It changes what you play. Sonic Character & Recommended Pairing Each pedal is evaluated and tuned around the personality of its particular circuit, components, and enclosure. Some end up darker, smoother, funkier, more psychedelic, more aggressive, or more traditional. This one developed around precision, articulation, speed, and an exceptionally focused vocal response. Its defining characteristic is how cleanly it separates the wah effect from the guitar underneath it. The resonant filter moves dramatically through the signal, yet the individual note remains remarkably intact. That becomes especially apparent with substantial gain. Low notes, particularly on the low E string, remain tight, sharply outlined, and extremely easy to distinguish, even through heavy saturation. Instead of blooming into a fuzzy or indistinct mass, the attack remains immediate, the fundamental stays recognizable, and individual notes retain their shape. The result is an unusually controlled high-gain wah that feels almost effortless beneath the fingers. Sound Character Extremely articulate Laser-crisp attack Tight low-string response Exceptional note separation Fast, responsive sweep Strong vocal character Defined vowel movement Focused midrange resonance Controlled low end Highly defined under distortion Immediate transient response Strong upper-mid projection Cutting without becoming brittle Precise rather than loose or woolly Excellent clarity through dense gain Defining sweep: Firm, controlled heel → sharply vocal midrange → focused, projecting upper-mid toe The Sweep Heel-down retains useful body without becoming excessively dark, muffled, or indistinct. As the treadle moves forward, the pedal develops a pronounced vocal quality with a focused midrange resonance and clearly audible vowel transition. Small treadle movements create immediately recognizable changes in the voice of the pedal. Toward the upper end, the wah develops considerably more projection and bite while retaining the shape and body of the underlying note. The sweep has a particularly fast, elastic quality. Rapid treadle movements remain distinct rather than blending together, allowing the player to use the wah almost rhythmically. Short movements can grab individual notes, punctuate riffs, emphasize harmonics, or rapidly shift between contrasting vowel positions. This is a wah that rewards an active foot. High-Gain Articulation This is arguably the pedal's defining specialty. Heavy distortion can expose one of the weaknesses of many wah circuits. Low frequencies become congested, individual notes begin merging together, and the resonant peak can overwhelm the original guitar signal. This wah behaves very differently. Even through substantial gain, the underlying note remains exceptionally intact. You can still hear the: Initial pick attack Fundamental pitch Harmonic structure Separation between consecutive notes Shape and decay of the note Movement of the wah itself Rather than obscuring those details, the resonant sweep seems to move around the note. This becomes particularly noticeable on the lower strings. Individual attacks can feel almost etched into place, with the wah moving through the frequency spectrum without smearing them together. That makes fast and heavily driven playing remarkably easy to articulate. Vocal Sweep & Treadle Response This pedal is not only articulate. It is fast. The resonant peak follows treadle movement quickly and distinctly, allowing much finer control over the vocal character of a phrase. Rather than simply rocking from heel to toe, the treadle can be used to: Grab specific vowel positions Accent individual notes Add short rhythmic wah movements Hold narrow resonant frequencies Move rapidly between contrasting vowel sounds Shape sustained bends Animate vibrato Emphasize harmonics Manipulate feedback Create fixed-wah tones The sweep remains defined rather than smeared, which is a major reason the pedal feels so controllable. That speed also makes the treadle itself part of the player's timing. Once you begin using short, deliberate movements, the wah becomes less like an effect sitting on top of the guitar and more like another element of the performance. Recommended Guitar & Pickup Pairing This wah is particularly well suited to guitars where clarity, attack, and harmonic definition matter. Recommended pairings include: Medium-to-high-output humbuckers Hot vintage-style humbuckers Ceramic humbuckers Alnico V humbuckers Modern passive pickups Active pickups HH guitars HSS guitars Modern rock and metal-oriented guitars Extended-range guitars Lower-tuned instruments High-output pickups are especially interesting with this voicing. Instead of becoming overwhelmed by the additional harmonic density, the circuit remains composed. The stronger signal gives the resonant filter plenty of harmonic material to manipulate while the underlying guitar continues to retain its outline. Lower-output pickups can also take advantage of the pedal's quick, clearly defined sweep, particularly for cleaner playing, rhythmic wah work, and more traditional vocal phrasing. Amplifiers & Gain Particularly strong pairings include: High-gain amplifiers Driven tube amplifiers British-style gain structures Saturated lead channels Modern distortion Overdrive pedals Distortion pedals Compatible fuzz setups Amplifiers with substantial low-frequency content The pedal works clean, but gain reveals one of its most distinctive characteristics. As saturation increases, the circuit continues to preserve: Pick definition Note separation Low-string clarity Fundamental pitch Sweep definition Harmonic detail Instead of turning into an indistinct resonant wash, it remains tight, controlled, and extremely playable. Players who use substantial gain but still want to hear exactly what their hands are doing will immediately understand what makes this particular voicing different. Playing Style Especially effective for: High-gain riffing Low E-string riffs Fast single-note passages Palm-muted phrases Low-register lead playing Technical lead guitar Rapid lead runs Distorted arpeggios Rhythmic wah accents Rapid treadle movements Sustained bends Wide vibrato Pinch harmonics Feedback manipulation Fixed-wah resonant tones Psychedelic lead guitar Modern rock Metal Heavy blues-rock Experimental guitar textures Its Personality The defining personality of this wah is precision with expression. It has a strong vocal response without allowing that resonance to overwhelm the guitar. The pedal can dramatically reshape the frequency content of a note while leaving the original attack, pitch, and articulation unusually intact. That combination gives it a very different feeling under gain: tight without being sterile cutting without being brittle vocal without becoming muddy fast without losing body aggressive without sacrificing definition It is a riff maker, lick maker, articulation tool, rhythmic filter, high-gain voice shaper, and idea generator. It is the kind of pedal that can make new phrases spill out of your hands the moment you begin moving the treadle. A different resonant position suggests a different bend. A quick foot movement changes the rhythm of a riff. A held frequency turns into a new lead tone. New riffs, bends, lead lines, and song ideas have a way of showing up quickly with this one. Every wah has a target. This one was built for speed, precision, vocal expression, and absolute clarity when the gain gets heavy. The right pedal does not just change your tone. It changes what you play. Construction & Modification History This pedal is individually built from a vintage Thomas Organ wah platform. The original enclosure has been stripped/refinished and repurposed as the foundation for this custom build. The original bottom plate has been retained where applicable. The internal circuit has been extensively evaluated, modified, and revoiced using a combination of original and replacement components. Component values and circuit configurations have been deliberately altered to create the specific response described above. This is not being represented as an original, unmodified Thomas Organ wah. It is a custom-modified and refinished pedal built around a vintage Thomas Organ platform.
